Mayor Kenneth Broadway today applauded the U.S. Department of Homeland
Security for awarding a $150,300 dollar grant to the Bath Springs
Volunteer Fire Department, under the 2004 Assistance to Firefighter Grant
Program.
The program which he applied for provides grants to help local fire
departments purchase new firefighting equipment, fund firefighter health
and safety programs, enhance emergency medical services programs and
conduct fire prevention and safety programs.
"I'm pleased that the Department of Homeland Security continues to support
the critical role of Decatur Counties fire departments", Broadway said.
"This funding will ensure that Bath Springs firefighters have the
training, support and resources they need to protect our communities."
"I appreciate the Department of Homeland Security's investment in Bath
Springs for emergency preparedness," Broadway said. "This grant along with
the recent CDBG Grant we received for $300,000 dollars will help give
firefighters in our county the vital resources they need to save lives. I
will continue to work on finding every dollar that's to be had to ensure
that our volunteer fire department's are equipped and are ready and able
to keep our citizens safe."
"The Grant we applied for - The Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program (AFGP)
awards one-year grants directly to fire departments to support the
nation's firefighters and the services they deliver. The Department of
Homeland Security's Office for Domestic Preparedness (ODP) administers the
program, in cooperation with the U.S. Fire Administration."
